5. Personal Message from Mandy Haynes
It’s been a wild ride since 2021 Girlfriend Weekend! When Kathy asked if I’d be the Executive Director of the Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Book Club I jumped in with both feet. I consider myself lucky to be a part of such a supportive group and I was excited to help her get things back on track after her health scare in 2020.
It’s been fun! We’ve started some new programs, gotten things organized, and started building our social media presence! But it was a volunteer position that turned into a full time job – the title was just for fun – it was never a paid position.
No complaints, but now that Kathy is feeling better and things are starting to pick back up (not like it was before Covid, but hopefully it’s getting there) I have to get my life back on track and focus on paying gigs. I was just recently offered a position as a part-time bookseller at Story & Song Bookstore Bistro, I have a spot to fill at The Shady Ladies Gallery, I’m getting extra assignments from Amelia Islander, and I’m determined to finish one of these novels before fall.
I’ll continue to publish Reading Nation Magazine because we need affordable advertising. And I’ll be sending out a call for submissions for the next PQ/TG WIP anthology soon.
There are a few authors who are still confused by how these two projects work so dropping the title will hopefully clear up any confusion. (The cost to run the magazine – and publish the anthology – are/were out of my pocket, not PQ/TGs funds.)
I created both projects because I’m an author too and I know how important it is stay in the readers’ view. Plus the bigger the PQ/TG book club grows, the more support we have as PQ/TG authors. Promoting the book club is a win-win and a thank you to Kathy L. Murphy for everything she’s done for authors in the last 22 years.
I’ll also help Kathy when she needs me and continue to promote authors as much as I can. That’s a given – because that’s what it means to be a Pulpwood Queen and has nothing to do with a title anyway.
If you’d like to help, Kathy could use a hand with Reader Recognition Fridays and sharing event links and all the great things that need to be celebrated.
Thank you for a fun year and here’s to many more!

6. Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Children’s Book Club
Years ago, Kathy started the Splinters and the Pinecones–two book clubs for kids that were a break off of the Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Book Club. Kathy started out in the book world as a Children’s Book Store manager, so children’s books have always had a special place in her heart.
But life happened and owning the beauty shop, the bookstore, running the Pulpwood Queens, and the children’s book club was too much to do on her own.
Sadly, she had to give some things up.
Now that she has a new executive director, she’s a grandmother of a little book lover, and so many Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy members have become grandparents themselves–we think it’s time to start again! As authors, you need a place to promote your work–and readers need a place to find you.
So it’s my pleasure to introduce Reading With Queen Mama Kat!
Just like the author members of the original PQ/TG, when you join you will be featured in our newsletter, listed in our new section (New Children’s Authors), promoted on our Reading With Queen Mama Kat Facebook Page–we’ll have some fun with this! – and your books will be considered for the new Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Children’s Book Club reading list.
You will be eligible to purchase low-cost advertising in our Reading Nation Magazine (which will start a new children’s book section) and purchase banners to advertise your work on the website and newsletter.
This is just the start–once we get going, we’ll think of other ways to get you seen and your books read.
Children’s Book Authors – welcome to The International Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Book Club! Author membership for Children’s Book authors and/or Illustrators is the same – a $50 annual fee.
You DO NOT have to pay two memberships.
If you’re already an author member and you have a children’s book you want featured, contact Kathy at thepulpwoodqueen@gmail.com.
Now let’s have some fun!
7. The Cool Kat’s Club – Reading With The Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys
We can’t leave out our middle-grade to young adult authors and readers!
So – we will have another Facebook Group – The Cool Kat’s Club – Reading With The Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys – to showcase our works from our middle-grade to young adult author’s books too. We’ll be searching for a few tween to teenage readers to help us moderate the page and keep it fun.

Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Authors – if you have a middle-grade to YA novel that you would like to promote on the new Facebook page, email Mandy at mandy.pulpwoodqueen@gmail.com
8) New Pulpwood Queen’s Book Club Advertising Announcement
We have received interest from new author members about advertising opportunities with the book club. After much discussion and consideration, we have decided to offer a few ways for new author members to do just that. We have a new page on the website explaining exactly what those opportunities are. If you are interested in doing some promotions for your projects, just visit our advertising page on the website and/or click the link below.
