Dear Readers,
Okay, okay, if anybody has been around me the past month or so they know I have become a big Jason Momoa fan. But not for the obvious reasons, yes, he is so easy on the eyes, it is truly for the full package. I happened to have discovered him as an actor in the Netflix series “Frontier”, in preparing for my costumes for my themed HOW THE WEST WAS WON annual Pulpwood Queen Book Club Convention which we call Girlfriend Weekend to be held January 17 – 19, 2019 in historic Jefferson, Texas. You see I run the largest “meeting and discussing” book club in the world, 765 chapters nationwide and in 15 foreign countries and this is our annual book club convention. I had been watching all the westerns. “Frontier” is quite a series and covers the Hudson Bay Trading which involved Americans, the British, Canadians, and the Native American Indians all involved in trying to capture the market on fur trading. I fell in love with the show and especially Jason Momoa. You see he is kind of a “black sheep” as he is half- Cree and half-Irish”. What world do you belong to when of mixed heritage?
I could so relate as though I was born and raised Kansas, I did not quite fit there. Definitely, the “black sheep” of my family and never quite found a place to call HOME until I started the Pulpwood Queen Book Clubs which champions the underdog, the book readers who are often marginalized as nerds, introverts, I helped give them a voice.
I also was inspired by all the costumes. Wait until you see mine at the “Great Big Ball of Hair” Ball which of course I have put my own spin on it! Jason Momoa can wear anything and I admire his bravery in wearing these costumes and off screen, when he wears what he wants to wear. Rock On Jason Mamoa!
So I then started checking out his other films that I could find, some of his earliest stuff was fun and scary to watch but then I discovered he was in “Game of Thrones”, the New “Conan”, lots and lots of other film credits. He has created his own persona. I cannot imagine anyone else to play the roles he plays and he envelopes himself in the characters big time.
Jason Momoa is the full masculine to the max package but then I discovered this other side. His comedic timing and enthusiasm on The Graham Norton Show, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and I was charmed. His sense of play, humor, passion, and kindness showed me just how beautiful he was on the inside. Here he is with his beautiful wife, Lisa Bonet and children below He’s a real family man. Now I am impressed, fourteen years with Lisa Bonet and he stated: “she is my smoking red hot wife”. I am damn impressed.
Lisa Bonet was quoted in Essence magazine
“What’s cool about Jason is that he’s an alpha male who stands for love and family. And to circle back to my own wounds, having an absent father, then to be fully met by a man of that stature, is really incredible. Jason embodies a rare form of masculinity in this day and age – he’s a leader; he’s generous. Just in terms of charisma, physique, the right use of power, responsibility, work ethic, you can go down the line.”
Along with the children she and Momoa share, Bonet admits that she and Kravitz still have a great friendship and her big blended family is full of nothing but happiness.
“It’s fantastic. It’s full-on family love.”
So why do I mention all of this? I have to admit, coming from some pretty devastating relationships in the past, I kind of lost my faith a bit in men in general. Now I must preface that by saying I have some incredible male friends, most authors, but a few not. I adore them. But being now divorced for nearly five years, I truly had lost faith in are there really any good men out there? But after watching everything Jason Momoa, my faith has been restored. Life lesson for me and others, make him your role model.
This past Saturday, I laughed my head off on Jason Momoa hosting Saturday Night Live. Yes, some of it was a bit risque’ but the way Jason Momoa handled each skit was done in such a playful, enthusiastic and fun manner, I was smitten. I found myself truly enjoying the experience. Here are some photos of that show!
But what truly drove home my love for this actor was this shot!
A man that would rock pigtails wearing a pink t-shirt, be still my heart!
Okay, I am more than a bit obsessed with this stalker, yes, he admitted he was a stalker for his wife, which made me laugh hard. In fact, in this world of depressing news, battling politics and political fevers pitting family, friends against one another, I choose joy, unbridled enthusiasm for whatever someone has thrown their heart and soul into in this world. Jason Mamoa does not take himself that seriously, he is having big-time fun in life but as far as his work, he takes it very seriously. GAME ON! SCORE! He gives it his very all and shouldn’t all of we do that!
I have always been a champion for those who break the mold, who follow their own fashion sense, their own style, dreams, their lifework, and then make it happen! So let’s all be a Jason Momoa, let us all celebrate putting big love and passion out into the world whether as an actor or a small town Kansas girl who had been dreams in this world too of changing the world through authors, books, literacy, books and more. Now no matter how much rock climbing I could ever do or weight training, nothing would give me those incredible body building genes. We each have our own “book” covers. we are a product of our genes. And don’t let just judge the book by its cover. Let us begin to be true to thyself and all the beauty will shine out to the world for all we are passionate about in life.
So planning on going to Aquaman of which he stars coming upon the big screen soon. I was a waterbaby too growing up in Kansas as my dad at one time ran the city pool, taught swimming lessons and had me and my sisters all swimming before we could walk. Swimming lessons from Kindergarten to being Certified Red Cross Lifeguards as that was my job all through high school and college in the summers. I can hardly wait.
So onward and upward, heard he has another great series deal with Apple coming up to star in a futuristic series but regardless, I just will continue to love this guy no matter what he does because he is the poster child for ENTHUSIASM and PASSION in a really good way!
So now that I have gushed and gushed on Jason Mamoa, I cannot wait for you all to see my costume inspired by him at our HOW THE WEST WAS WON Pulpwood Queen Girlfriend Weekend Book Club Convention.
