Dear Readers,
When I look back at the almost 19 years of running the Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys Book Clubs I think about the highlights through the years. Getting to meet the authors in PERSON, completing that connection of author to reader, that is what I do. Put great books in the hands of great readers and then celebrating all those books at the end of the year at our annual Pulpwood Queen Girlfriend Weekend. I have seen the delight on the faces of book club members as New York Times Bestseller Author, Pat Conroy, inquired, as he waited the tables at our first ever Author Dinner, “Would you like sweet tea ladies or unsweet tea?” The look on their faces was priceless. Everyone knows that Pat Conroy is my favorite all time author, but he is a southern favorite, a known and a New York Times Bestseller. But to watch an author come year after year unknown, to connect with readers, to write thirty books and then finally achieve great success, that is the subject of my post today. I am here to talk about Pulpwood Queen Author, Lisa Wingate!
I was up early to leave for Dallas to meet with my Pulpwood Queens of Collin County for two events with Pulpwood Queen Author, Christa Allan, who by the way is a great storyteller and lovely person. I checked my email and this came in below:
My incredible agent at The Book Group, Elisabeth Weed helping to celebrate a huge milestone. If you heard loud noises radiating through the atmosphere, that was me screaming and Elisabeth popping a cork when Before We Were Yours officially crossed the 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD mark! We are absolutely beside ourselves! Thank you, readers, booksellers, media friends, Penguin Random House, Susanna Porter, and people who tell other people about books! You are the best!

CONGRATULATIONS TO AUTHOR, LISA WINGATE. Of all our successes with our Official reads, I could not be more proud of this Texas author who is a real trooper. Ever diligent, she kept writing and writing wonderful stories to finally be recognized by a real reading audience. She has sold one million copies of hardback books folks. Do you have any idea in this book climate today just how amazing this truly is?
An all-time favorite of The Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys Book Club we have hosted Lisa over and over and over again at our festival. In fact, I made her a KEYNOTE SPEAKER last year as she is so deserving of wearing the CROWN! She won Bonus Book Club Selection of the Year and the only reason she did not win Book of the Year is because of me. I made her a Bonus pick as I felt we had given her the little push into super bookselling stardom already. My fault but then this! One million copies sold and so deserving, so DESERVING!

Humble, kind, generous, all the adjectives for being the epitome of what an author should be are all there. She is a class act and we celebrate her written words. So do yourself a favor and begin reading her books with “Tending Roses” and work your way through her entire list to “Before You Were Yours”. Invest in an author, invest in our Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Book Club reads, and invest in becoming a book club member. Lives have been changed from reading Lisa Wingate and our books. I know she is now a Rock Super Star but will be inviting Lisa Wingate back to our annual Girlfriend Weekend, because like Reavis Wortham, my co-host, they are just a part of the fabric of the carefully stitched quilt of stories that blanket us with their marvelous words.

I may never reach superstardom like Lisa Wingate but it does not matter to me because folks, our authors have reached for the brass ring and some have gained that prize in the carousel of life. Lisa Wingate gives me hope for a better book reading world. I will keep doing this until I no longer can as inspired by Lisa and her never giving up. I hope all of you will join my book crusade on helping the little guy or gal get discovered in a really big way.
