Dear Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys Book Club Members, our Authors, Readers, and Book Lovers Everywhere!
Almost packed up to travel to my annual Pulpwood Queen Girlfriend Weekend but do note, I live in a gated community with SECURITY! Tarzan one of my pets keeps guard, as well as, my house sitters. Though the only thing I have of value at my house is all my books, just wanted to let any potential criminal know, I am well protected at home. Did I mention bear traps throughout my property, hahahaha!
Just so you will know, here is our 2018 Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Book Club Selections so far this coming year. I hopefully, will have an extended list to share with all of you at Girlfriend Weekend. Do note, that ONLY Official Book Club Selection Authors are invited to our weekend as your chance to get meet our authors and to get your reads for the month autographed by them at this event. Our book club event is all about created a full picture for the author/book connection. So take advantage of this offer and BUY THEIR BOOKS! It’s why they come to you, so no better way to support an author is to purchase their book and perhaps do an online review. You will have author friends for life, I assure you!

The sole mission of the Pulpwood Queens and yes, Timber Guys Book Club is to promote our authors, their books, literacy, and reading all while having some big-time fun!
Also Kiffer Brown of Chanticleer Book Review had Pulpwood Queen Author, Sara Dahmen write this pretty incredible feature on their site called “What is Pulpwood Queen GIRLFRIEND WEEKEND all about? Check out this incredible feature at: https://www.chantireviews.com/2018/01/09/what-is-pulpwood-queens-girlfriend-weekend-all-about-by-sara-dahmen/!
We have some incredible vendors this year including our favorites that come back year after year but I too will have a booth featuring some pretty incredible artists, Helaina Amethyst Wilkerson is bringing her newly designed bags, perfect for travel and book toting.
Laura McLelland is sending with me her handmade scrapbooks which are incredible. As she is having cataract surgery TOMORROW, she won’t be able to be there so bringing all she has finished with me to the event.
Beauty and the Book will also be featuring my art, see my “Raspberry Dreams” Alcohol and India Ink on Museum Gesso Board below:
The Author Silent Auction items keep pouring in as I ask all authors attending to bring an item autographed for the Auction held throughout the weekend that ties into them or their book. All proceeds from this year’s Silent Auction will go to the Pat Conroy Literary Center in Beaufort, South Carolina. Here is a photo of one of the fantastic donated items signed by author, Laurel Davis Huber of “The Velveteen Daughter”, both this and “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Marjory Williams are two of absolutely favorite old and new reads. Here is what she posted on Facebook:
The Velveteen Rabbit box. It’s only 4×4 but it sparkles! And the answer to What is Real is in the back. Nod to the role that childhood classic plays in my book The Velveteen Daughter. Looking forward to seeing all the fun auction items!!!
I too have so many authors who truly believe in helping this literary center that they are sending items for auction and won’t even be there. This notice just came to me from Author, Susan Cushman on her artist/author friend:
S–just saw your Facebook post about the wood Queens and the Pat Conroy auction. So glad for even more great exposure for you!
Wondered if a prayer bead necklace would be fitting for the auction– or if you’d even want to bother taking it and fooling with putting it in? I have no inventory–I only do by commission–but I would be able to make one this afternoon or evening if wanted. It would be one of a kind; an antique, handmade Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic prayer beads, as well as other unique beads; with an antique replica of the third-century Coptic cross. Card explaining the provenance of all beads with a little message about how we are all one. It would retail somewhere between 125 and 175 depending on the venue. But who knows at auction?
I would like to honor Pat Conroy and all he has meant to so many of us through our formative years.
Also, I’m attaching below the front and back covers of my book, a box of which Paraclete will get to me by February 15 for the annual gift for each of the Calvary Lenten speakers, but will not be released until March 13. Julie Cantrell’s incredibly lovely blurb is on the back with Richard Rohr’s. You might show it to anyone interested. Also, note that my prayer necklace also would be in honor of Julie. The marketing peeps at Paraclete were very impressed. They were already very aware of who she is.
Have wonderful, wonderful time – – and break a leg on your panels!

Last, don’t forget on on Sunday to bring your SUNDAY CROWN and join me for worship service at The First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches, Texas. That is what we call our HATS! The service starts at 10:55 a.m. and walking distance from The Fredonia Hotel and Convention Center! We always make a big splash at church and does not matter your denomination, it’s all about community and faith. Open doors, Open Minds is why I love my church and after all, they accept me as I am, hahahhaha!
So from this post on, I will not be answering any messages as on the road and running the event. You can message me at thepulpwoodqueen@gmail.com but it may be late at night before I can truly get back with you.
On the road again!
