Happy 4th of July!
Truly celebrating as we have a winner for the Alcohol ink painting “Flinthills”, that I donated for a Silent Auction Fundraiser for my hometown of Eureka, Kansas after they suffered a devastating F3 direct hit tornado this past week. Meet Pulpwood Queen Author, Kathryn Casey who won the painting!
Kathryn is a dear, dear friend and helped and supported me immensely through the years and she had the highest bid of $110 which will go to the first responders and the City of Eureka, Kansas. I cannot thank all my Pulpwood Queens, Timber Guys, and our authors who bid on my painting but going to mention them as they deserve a round of “paying it forward” response too: Paul Roberson, Johnnie Bernhard, Tiajuana Anderson Neel, Ann Weisgarber, and Heidi Teichgraeber.
Here is the painting that she won!

So my 4th of July keeps getting better, Pulpwood Queen Author, Laurel Davis Huber purchased the beginning of the summer one of my works titled, “The Blue Portal”, the largest Alcohol Ink and Acrylic painting I have ever done on a framed board. It was so big I figured it would be about the same cost to deliver it as to ship it so I made preparations for my first ever Pop-Up “Warrior Goddess” Art and Fashion Book Tour which was a HUGE SUCCESS! I visited Pulpwood Queen Book Club leaders, chapters, authors, and artist all the way up to Rumson, New Jersey to Laurel’s then on up to Westport, Connecticut and back down for a 4,000-mile road trip with Pulpwood Queen Tiajuana Anderson Neel riding shotgun. We covered 14 states and I drove over 60 hours with drives through NEW YORK CITY TWICE! Now I feel qualified for all the trucker jobs that keep coming my way since I registered for jobs at The University of Texas in Tyler after graduating. Who knew an art degree would be so popular amongst trucking firms!
So many great things happened on this trip that I will be blogging the rest of the summer. Also, this trip is going to be the Grand Finale of my next book, “The Pulpwood Queen Goes Back to School: My Continuing Guide to Life On Being a Life Long Learner. What happened at Laurel’s incredible art-filled home just made my trip and wait until you read all about it. I am saving it for the book but my 4th of July presents just keep coming today as she just sent me photos of my massive painting in her home prominently featured in her dining room that’s wall faces her kitchen, see photos below.
Photo of Pulpwood Queen Author, Laurel Davis Huber and Pulpwood Queen of Jersey Shore, Debi J. Grandinetti Holliday at Laurel’s local book signing. Debi filmed me unveiling the painting when we arrived which I will never forget as long as I live.
Laurel Davis Huber, is the author of “The Velveteen Daughter” which is the story of Margery William’s daughter of “The Velveteen Rabbit” which is one of my favorite books of all time. To know that my painting is featured prominently in her home that houses an art collection you would not believe is the biggest thrill of my life. I took such a risk going on this ultimate road trip to deliver this painting but I will never regret the experience. I have $500 in my pocket and came home with money which only goes to prove that if you face your greatest fears, the rewards are so overwhelming and life-enriching, you will have the greatest sense of accomplishment! Thank you, Laurel Davis Huber, our story will continue as we are now bonded for life and you too Debi J. Grandinetti as I had never met her before this trip of a lifetime. Go. Travel, See. Do, Face your fears, I have never been more tired or happier! Thank you again to all who made that Pop-Up Tour possible!
So what am I doing the rest of the 4th of July? What I have done in the last five years, I am planning on reading, painting, reflecting, and enjoying the passions in my life. I am also getting ready to go see my oldest daughter’s Helaina Amethyst Wilkerson along with her husband Toby’s new home in Sanger, Texas, then I will be traveling to Enid, Oklahoma to join my cousins for their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Oakwood Country Club. I was a candle lighter in that wedding along with my sister, Karen Murphy Penner, in our mint green with lace empire waist with bow, mini dress with mint green satin bows in our hair. I can hardly wait to see all my Oklahoma family! Life is good. I will barely get back home when I’m off to a TREES Painting Workshop in Birmingham, Alabama with the artist, Melanie Sanderson Morris. Will be visiting with my best bro, author, Michael and Melanie Morris, been too long. Then on to Fairhope, Alabama to stay with my dear author friends, Suzanne Hudson and Joe Formichella. I will be doing a “Queen and King” portrait of them and being shown around the local galleries, can hardly wait! Then back just in time for some studio time then the August 11th Artwalk at Stephanie Chance’s Decorate Ornate gallery and shop in Gladewater, Texas that houses my newest art.
August is my birthday month and now qualify for Social Security, oh my Lord, and I am owning it! It’s nifty to be 60 and now actually will be 62! I have to say the 60’s have been the best years of my life so far and looking forward to the days ahead. So celebrate your independence, I sure am and you all, I am going for it!
Happy 4th of July my dear, dear friends. Keep paying it forward and my Kickstarter for everything? READING!
