Dear Readers,
First the good news or the bad news? I’ll go with the good news. Our 20th Anniversary Pulpwood Queen Girlfriend Weekend was a huge success. You know you have done good when one of your authors, and a dear one to me I might add, wrote a feature for Southern Writer’s Magazine on her take on the event. Thank you Claire Fullerton and Southern Writer’s Magazine!

I cannot thank Claire enough, her friendship has truly changed my life for the better and I must mention her up-and-coming book “Little Tea” that is on our 2020 Pulpwood Queen Book Club Reading List. I am so proud of our authors and their books!
As you might not know, I love to select authors that are new voices in literature and help them whether first time, first book or those just waited to be discovered in a big way. This is my life’s passion and why I invest in their body of work. Once a Pulpwood Queen author, pretty much always an author I will promote until my dying day! Invest in our authors, readers, and that is reading “money in the bank”, which is so much better than monetary riches. My authors are my riches and my book club has made me wealthy beyond all measure for knowing that it’s our relationships with others that are the true riches in life.
2020 has been going by so fast that I haven’t even been able to process all the good that has happened but like life, hop aboard my a roller coaster, I have had some health issues too. My life has always been an open book so here goes.
Early Sunday morning as we packed up the convention center I knew I was in trouble. My body could go no longer. We packed up, I headed home, drove my camper in my drive at Murphy’s Law, unloaded my cats and went to bed for like, two weeks! I could not muster the energy to do much. I got all the photos and news features posted but I knew something was very, very wrong. I had a bad cold too, so after I felt that had left my system I went to my doctor for a thorough check up. Urine and blood tests arrived back and was told I had full blown diabetes. Yes, life changes have incurred and I am on it. I am on prescriptions now you all and feel so much better. Yesterday my pharmacist showed me how to test my blood sugar and I am on it this morning. After many calls and talks with my doctor and further doctor, dermatologist, and eye doctor appointments I have now reached the day of older age. I am embracing it and like Robert Hicks and Leila Meacham will do so with a positive attitude and forge ahead.
You know that gut feeling when you feel that something has to change. I guess I knew that I would need to take a more behind the scenes change as crowning Brooklyn Bradley-LaFleur my New Face of The Pulpwood Queens with the help of my webmaster, Paul Roberson at our recent Girlfriend Weekend. They will forge ahead to start our NEW reading and writing initiatives as I navigate the course of Diabetes II 101. So seriously stepping back to let my NEW angels shine!
All of this, of course, our New Pulpwood Queen All-Access Online Book Club, our Pulpwood Queen Academy, our New writing program is on our website, www.thepulpwoodqueens.com, our 2020 reading selections and our “three amigos” are working already on 2021 Pulpwood Queen Girlfriend Weekend too.
I can tell you this, with our team it’s going to be better and better. Brooklyn Bradley La-Fleur is having a ReGrand Opening of her Salon Rouge in Jefferson, Texas, Valentine’s Day, starting a Open House at 10:00 a.m. We all will be there with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. for photo. They say you want to get a job well done, look for the busiest person you know, that would be Brooke and Paul. We all juggle our other jobs and lives but I can assure you, they are as passionate about writing and reading as I am. I am blessed.
Other news is we are starting more Pulpwood Queen chapters and two ironically in California, one in Dallas. More on that soon.
So singing my father’s favorite song, “Every day, it’s a little closer, going faster than a roller coaster” that Buddy Holly made famous.

It is you all, and it may be bumpy, we may scream in delight, but won’t you join me on this literacy promoting ride?
